I did it!

Me at the verzasca dam

After a bit of a nightmare journey to Milan and Locarno, my uncle Michael and I eventually made it to the Verzasca dam. It was a scorcher of a day at 33C, it couldn’t have been better. When we arrived we stood to the side of the dam and watched a few people take the leap and listened to their screams echo through the valley. It’s a good way to get psyched up!

I went and took care of all the admin work, i.e. filling in a form that says if you die or get mangled you can’t sue the organisers, and got strapped into the harness. I had to wait for about half an hour (it felt like weeks!) before it was my turn to jump. I climbed onto the platform, got attached to the bungee rope, hung my toes over the edge of the ledge and then… 3….2….1……. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I can’t even begin to describe how it felt. Unbelievable.

The money raised from the jump is still being counted. I’ll update soon with the total. A massive thanks to everyone who donated!

Verzasca dam

It’s about time I started to take some action to raise funds so I’ve decided to start big and what’s a bigger way to start than a 720ft bungee jump from the Verzasca dam in Switzerland! If you have ever seen the James Bond film Goldeneye you may remember the scene where he bungees off a massive dam supposedly set in Russia. Well, I’ll be taking the very same leap from that dam on the 29th August 2009.

To say I’m nervous would be an understatement but it should be a good way to raise some publicity and more importantly money for the Enduro Africa charities. I’m paying for the jump and all associated travel costs out of my own pocket so 100% of all sponsorship and support will go into the Enduro Africa fund.

This is a big step for me (pardon the pun!) so please show your support by clicking on the “Donate” button! Every penny counts so no matter how big or small the amount you can afford is, it will be massively appreciated.

Thanks!

In October 2010, I’ll be embarking on a journey unlike any I have ever undertaken before. I’ll be hopping on a plane to Durban in South Africa and making a 2000Km journey, off-road, on a motorbike to Port Elizabeth. Taking around 8 days, the journey will test our trusty Hondas to the limit as well as pushing us to the limit mentally, physically and emotionally.

Why am I doing this? Those of you who know me know I have been mad about motorbiking since I was a wee nipper. However there is a much more important reason for undertaking this. The funds raised from your support in sponsoring me will go to four very worthwhile charities who’s work brings some light into the lives of children in poverty stricken areas of Africa.

I have to raise a minimum of £5000 but I aim to exceed that amount by as much as possible so expect me to be asking you to turn your pockets inside out some time soon!

All the info you need should be here but if there’s anything else I haven’t covered, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

I will be very grateful for your support whichever form it may take. I know in the current financial climate it’s a difficult time to ask people to donate their hard earned cash but the causes are very worthwhile and every penny will count It’s not going to be easy and I am going to need all the help I can get!

Thanks for looking and spread the word! :-)
